Changing Your Collet/ Router Bit

A guide on changing your spindle collet/ router bits.

Note these photos use the AMB precision Spindle as our example, but the steps are the same.

Step 1: To loosen the nut, make sure you are holding down the button on the side of the spindle (If it doesn’t press down easily, turn the nut until it does).

Step 2: Take your spanner, and loosen the collet nut by turning the spanner to the left.

Step 3: Remove the collet from the collet nut by pushing it firmly to one side. It should pop out.

Step 4: Replace with the desired collet by pushing it into the collet nut. It should click into place. It is important to make sure your collet is clean before loading - pay attention to the slits being clear.

Step 5: Insert your router bit simply by sliding it into the collet. Most router bits have what’s called a ‘K mark’ (a mark that looks like a sideways K) to tell you how far to inset the tool The 'K' needs to be in line with the face of the collet.

Step 6: Screw the collet & nut back onto the spindle head using you hand, whilst holding down the side button.

Step 7: Once on, use the spanner to tighten
