The Wood Shack is a family run business based in Derbyshire UK, who specialise in supplying CNC routed MDF shapes to their customers. The range of products they can provide is expansive, from custom signage to home decorations - with design and a quick turnaround included!

Before SmartBench

After losing her job on maternity leave, Kerry bought her first CNC and began turning her love of woodwork into more than just a hobby. Working from her spare room she began selling some of her work, however struggled with her small CNC machines (300mm x 300mm) as they generated a lot of waste material and made for a slow turnaround time. That didn't stop her however, and in just over a year The Wood Shack was established.

Introducing SmartBench

With SmartBench, The Wood Shack has been able to expand the range of products they offer, increase their turnaround time and decrease material waste. Not only that, but they share their success with other small businesses, using their skills and knowledge to encourage others to make the jump from hobbyists into business owners.

"I'd just like to reach out to those who have unfortunately come out of work, especially during the pandemic, and are considering starting a business as a woodworker. Do it! I bought 1 CNC and started selling a couple of things from my spare room. 16 months later I'm now in my own workshop with numerous machines, earning a living and loving what I do - I wouldn't do anything else now. If I can do it anyone can, just believe in yourself!"
