Martin Purdy, owner of Gifts In Wood bought his first SmartBench PrecisionPro in July 2021 and has since used it to transform his work.
Bristol-based Martin, who has more than 20 years of experience as a kitchen fitter and carpenter, wanted to use a CNC router that would grow with his new business ideas, and give him the opportunity to explore new markets.
Speaking about his experiences so far with SmartBench, Martin commented:
"I first came across SmartBench via their Facebook page and although I'd been looking at cheaper CNC brands, I wanted a portable router that could cut 8x4 in full format. SmartBench ticked all the boxes for me, and continues to do so."
Having used his SmartBench PrecisionPro to make bespoke furniture as a carpenter, Martin also found the CNC router was versatile enough to allow him to work with different materials, including carbon fibre, stone and locally sourced offcuts.
"SmartBench has enabled me to keep costs lower and use locally-sourced offcuts for Gifts In Wood projects. It has opened up new business options, while also giving me the chance to work with carbon fibre and stone," said Martin.
"Carbon fibre is lighter and stronger and gives me the option to make custom-made items. I have also used 20mm thick engineered stone on my SmartBench, which was for a unique customer project recently."
Having enjoyed significant growth in the Gifts In Wood business throughout 2022, Martin is looking forward to utilising his PrecisionPro further, adding:
"In the space of less than two years, SmartBench has transformed the way I work," said Martin.
