How to prepare your upper beam for metal cutting

This article explains how to check if your machine is set up for metal cutting and how to seal it against metal swarf.

How to tell if your Upper X beam is sealed

The X Upper Beam should be sealed with silicone behind the XLR Elbow.

Left: A properly sealed XLR Elbow

Right: An unsealed XLR elbow

If you find that your Upper X Beam is not sealed and you want to cut metal on your SmartBench please follow the instructions below on how to seal it.

How to seal your Upper X Beam

Apply silicone sealant at the opening on the back of the XLR Elbow

Spread the silicone ensuring that it fills the gaps around the cables.

A damp glue spreader or wide flat bladed screwdriver can help to reach into the gap and get a smooth finish.
