Spindle immediately races to very high speed

.

When powering on the Mafell spindle, does the spindle immediately (within 3 seconds) shoot to an excessively high speed, ignoring digital speed commands?

How to confirm this behaviour

Follow our test running the spindle guide in the MANUAL configuration.

Whilst running, try to change the speed using the speed dial:

If the speed dial has no effect, this confirms the symptoms. Continue reading for possible causes and remedies

Poor PCB constraint

It is possible that the PCB inside the spindle is not properly constrained, and therefore the speed sensor is not positioned correctly, allowing the spindle to spin to very high speeds or not work correctly.

Check this article to make sure the spindle’s PCB is constrained correctly.

Detached speed magnet

If the speed magnet on the back of the spindle rotor has detached from the spindle armature, the speed control will not work, allowing the spindle to spin to very high speeds or not work correctly.

Lift the red cap under the spindle’s PCB to examine the magnet.

Step 1: Remove rear cover

Step 2: Remove the spindle PCB

Step 3: Lift off the red cover for the speed magnet

If the magnet has detached or is broken, the spindle will need to be repaired. Please contact customer support by submitting a support ticket.

Faulty speed sensor on PCB

If the speed magnet presents in good condition, it is possible that the sensor on the PCB is broken. We sell replacement spindle PCB's in our replacement parts product page
